Fluid inclusions have been studied, by microthermometry, in metapelites and metabasites which have undergone partial melting in the transition zone from amphibolite to granulite facies. Mobilizates contain far more abundant and larger fluid inclusions than non-mobilized or restite layers, and these inclusions occur as several generations of well-defined and chemically contrasted fluids: carbonic (CO2 ± CH4 and hydrocarbon), aqueous (H2O ± NaCl) and N2.
A garnet-bearing mobilizate in amphibolite contains 4 generations of relatively pure fluids, most of them trapped after peak metamorphic conditions in the following P-T domains: CO2 and N2. P = 28 kbar, T = 550850°C; CH4., P = 12 kbar, T = 400550°C; H2O, P < 1 kbar, T = 120400° C.
