DR A. T. V. ROTHSTEIN writes: The paper by Bennet & Gibb (1983) develops further, by detailed study, an understanding of the structure of this body. It also throws further light (Leake 1964; Rothstein 1964),on its relationships to the surrounding metasediments and to the adjacent gabbroic body of Currywongaun-Doughruagh. In the course of a description of the Dawros layered sequence, the authors write somewhat abruptly: The layered ultramafic sequence contains few mesoscopic structures which can be unequivocally described to a primary magmatic origin, although several doubtful examples were described by Rothstein (1957). The particular doubtful examples that the authors have in mind are not indicated.
However, in the preceding paragraph the authors refer to discrete layers of chromitite and on their geological map of the Dawros peridotite the authors show the chrome-spine1 bands as traversing the intrusion in much the same manner as indicated previously (Rothstein 1957). In the western parts of these outcrops I found examples which I considered as exemplifying a primary magmatic origin. These I described and illustrated in 1957. I wrote: The process of accumulation is exemplified by some examples from the western outcrops of the chrome-spine1 horizon where evidence exists for the operation of magmatic currents and gravitational settling in the wedge- bedded and density-stratified accumulates of spinel and olivine.
Two of these I illustrated (Rothstein 1957, plate I, photos C and D). Example C (from locality G) is at present in my possession at Portsmouth Polytechnic, while example D (from locality F) was presented
