Roughly co-incident with the publication of this issue, the Journal is commissioning an electronic submission and tracking system that will allow on-line submission of manuscripts for publication. This was one of my main objectives when I took up the post of Chief Editor and it is pleasing to achieve that particular goal. Special thanks go to Angharad Hills, our Staff Editor, for her work in the assessment of the various packages on offer, and to Neal Marriot and Andy Fleet in securing Society funds and permission to go ahead with this project. It is hoped that the site will be live from the beginning of August 2004.
The switch to electronic submission is timely, occurring in the same year as similar transformations in other Earth Science journals published by commercial organizations, and the system we are using is similar to that adopted by our sister organization, the Geological Society of America.
